” I’ve fallen in love with my mom in a big way. She’s been dead for twenty years.” Intriguing and moving opening sentence by Toastmaster Bill on this Mothers’ Day weekend. The word of the day was ” proponent”, Lori presented the only speech of the meeting: A love letter to Seattle. Table topics were all about mothers, of course! Mothers and their funny -sometimes forceful- wisdom such as: ” To succeed in life, you need three things: a wish bone, a backbone and a funny bone( Reba McIntyre) or ” I don’t mind if you pee in the shower but you have to take a shower!” ( March Simpson)
Congratulations to Nelson and Bethany on being Grammarian and Table Topics Master for the very first time!!!
Our next meeting is May 18th.
We all have stories, stories happen to us every day. Toastmaster Paula shared a small collection of stories she gathered this past week. Insights picked up from podcasts and snippets of daily life were summarized in a series of ” Notes to self” at the end of the meeting: life is precious, create beautiful moments and share them with friends, do not be stingy, be awake to the beauty around you and the beauty inside will grow.
Two speakers presented two passionate speeches: Isabella, in “Plans to promote Seattle Sunrise Toastmasters” laid out three ideas for outreach in the U-District. Bill took the audience on a journey to the revitalization of Thornton Creek. Bill and his family have lived by the Creek for a long while and he has been paying attention to the amazing restoration that has been happening over decades and generations.
Bethany was the Grammarian and the word of the day was ” Fable”. Nelson keep time for the meeting for the very first time! Kudos to Bethany and Nelson!
Hui led the Table Topics portion using a card game called ” Storymatic”. Firefighters rescuing damsels in distress, office clerks on a deadline that end up in ER, newly weds with a slice of frozen wedding cake in a hot air balloon and a game tester farter who meets his match…my, oh my such fertile imaginations!
Traci was the General Evaluator.
Our next meeting is May 11th.
