These are days of unexpected sunshine and warmth in Seattle. As the weather changes, Katie, our Toastmaster of the day, gifted the club with a smart insight as we head towards next year’s resolutions: habits, not resolutions.
Today’s quote of the day was: “Discipline is choosing between what you want now and what you want most“.
Our first speaker Ahmad presented a speech “sans ” title. Do not let the “sans” mislead you. There was plenty of good material in this speech about Covid curing a smoking habit and the power of massive transformative change through identity change instead of atomic habits. Since this speech started with a story about smoking, it was only appropriate that it should conclude with a health warning disclaimer. Powerful, smart and fun. Ahmad is our stand up comic in residence. Come to Seattle Sunrise to watch him perform!
Our second speaker Adi presented his ice breaker speech. Ice breakers are momentous occasions, especially for first time Toastmasters. This very first speech is a Fear Breaker and a step towards discovery or rediscovery of one’s voice. Adi shared a raw story of burnout, indecision, loss of self confidence leading to resolve and action to improve his self confidence in the company of his fellow Toastmasters at Seattle Sunrise. The new habits that he chose for himself are already effecting a transformation. It is contagious to witness the transformation of others. Come to Seattle Sunrise to continue witnessing and supporting the positive transformation of others and yourself!
The extended table topics section led by Steven was inspiring and fun. The task was to explain” your ” new habit pictured on the slide, A few examples:
Why kiss a fish on the lips? To make sure that it’s the freshest fish, of course. (Who knows? Maybe inside every fish, lies an enchanted Prince in the Pacific North West?)
Why cover your whole naked body with sliced cucumbers? Skin care, of course! But also to develop a habit of rising up early and to grow your creativity. Gives ” Fruit of the Day” a new meaning!
Threatening goldfish at gun point? A whole new take at aiming practice, or teaching your fish to play dead?
Congratulations to Taylor for his first speech evaluation which he delivered with positive energy and compassion.
Another energizing, inspiring and fun filled meeting at SSTM!
