Oleg kicked off the meeting by inducting a new member, Hannah, after reading the club’s mission statement. Ana , freshly back from her trip to Peru, opened the meeting with words of encouragement. Reminiscing about her beginnings at Seattle Sunrise, Ana said that although “ OK was enough in the beginning” , as she grows in the club, she feels that she’s getting to a point of “ better than OK”.Young, the Grammarian, introduced the word of the day: “ Commensurate”.
Petar was the time keeper.
All three speeches fit in nicely with the topic of the day by appealing to the audience’s desire for growth and self improvement:
Sam a lifelong blood donor, made us aware of the importance of giving blood: we all need it, we only have about 10 pints of it, we can lose a whole lot of it as a result of a car crash and, most importantly, it cannot be synthesized artificially and IT WILL SAVE LIVES. So, give blood people! Sam’s powerpoint presentation titled: supply and demand was followed with a brief and very informative Q & A.
Traci, presenting “ Read Atomic Habits by James Clear- Part 2” used “ House of the Rising Sun” by the Animals as a cautionary tale to exhort the audience to break out of bad habits, one atom at a time. According to James Clear, mastering habits minutely but diligently every day yield exponential results. Some notable quotes from Traci’s speech:
“ The price of diligence is far less than regret” and “ 1% change every day will result in a 37% better you by the end of the year”. Realistic? For sure!
Traci’s call to action: Keep showing up!
In his speech titled “ The Perfect Day” Scott posed the question: What is a perfect day? I love his answer: A perfect day is a perfect imperfect day!” My takeaway : choose to make your day perfect in all its glorious imperfection, one choice, one success at a time.
Table topics were led by Bill in the form of a debate between two groups on the topic of Valentines. The pro- Valentines team consisting of Jimmy, Paula and Young won by a very slight margin over the con- Valentines team consisting of Isabella, Oleg and Hanna. Paula was voted best evaluator.
A good time was had by all!
