Law and Order — Meeting of May 12, 2012

The theme of this week’s Seattle Sunrise toastmasters meeting was “Law and Order”.  Our toastmaster of the morning was the honorable Scott and he led the meeting like a court proceeding.

Nicole started the speaking session by talking about an organization called Charity Water which makes water available to those in countries where clean drinking water is not accessible. (Competent Communication Project 9, Persuade with Power.)

Our second speaker, Andrew, delivered project 4 from the competent communicator manual.  His objective was to use vivid language in his speech.  The topic he chose to speak about was “crucial conversations”, or those conversations that area challenge to navigate in work and our personal lives. (CC No. 4, How to Say It)

Raymound rounded out the speaking session.  He spoke about how he was able to “bounce back” from a tough life event by “thinking like a winner”. (CC No. 6, Vocal Variety)

The court proceedings recessed into a table topics session led by Ray.  Guest, John won the best table topics by speaking about how he’s never been called to jury duty (though he would like to be).

Our evaluators of the morning were Sonja, Tammy, and Stephen.  Mary was the general evaluator of the meeting.  At the end of the meeting, the jury (all meeting attendees) found Tammy guilty of being the best evaluator of the morning.

In another development, Dave was awarded a new badge for achieving Advanced Communicator Bronze. Congratulations, Dave!

The verdicts rendered by our guests included “Fun!” and “Lots of positive energy.”

The next meeting will be on 5/19 and Dave will be the Toastmaster.
