June 17th: Road Trip 🛣️

” 106 miles to Chicago, we’ve got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes; it’s dark and we’re wearing sunglasses. Hit it!” Toastmaster Cris got us on the road with this spirited quote from ” The Blues Brothers”.

It’s summer, the season of road trips. Road trips come in all colors and shapes; some can be blissful and educational, others can be awful but they all make great stories.

Two speakers presented speeches on the theme. In his speech titled : My road trip to ER”, Ahmad related all the ways you could party, get COVID, miss out on a much anticipated trip to LA and land yourself in ER on a false heart attack alarm. Elliott took us on a tour of Torrey Pines State Park where we about the ec learned about birds and bees and Torrey pine trees.

Officer elections were held during the meeting. Welcome to the 2023 new slate of club officers:

President: Elliott Allard

VP Education: Moises Marin

WP Membership: Adi Jadhav

VP Public Relations: Ahmad Nahhas

Secretary: Paula Liu

Treasurer: Traci Mangan

Sergeant at Arms: Bill Scott

Katie led table topics. Road trip memories: disappearing drivers, a ticket that turned into tea at a cop’s house and the strange happenings that can occur during a long solo road trip from New Jersey to Indiana.

A good time was had by all!

Our next hybrid meeting is Saturday, June 24th.
