Happy new year! This was the very first meeting of 2022! 🙂 🎉
Toastmaster Paula chose the theme The Things I want to know/do, as she explained it: “In other words: Intentionality”.
Sergeant at Arms Bill Scott started the meeting on time, at 7:45am PST and hared with us zoom etiquette rules.
The word of the day, presented by Grammarian Steven was:
volition, the power or choosing or determining.
Example: Â I accomplished my new year’s resolution of my own volition.
Sarah was in charge of timing speakers, impromptu speeches and evaluators.
Our speakers for the day were:
Ahmad, presenting a speech about his experiences, fears, and games as a child titled: “The day I was almost kidnapped“.
Isabella, presenting a project to give and receive feedback, a very personal story about how she went from not having support to pursue her interests in writing, to receiving positive feedback for the stories she created, a speech titled: “How to be a writer“.
Jamie, presenting a storytelling project, a contest-quality speech about how her brother was there to help her score points in video games as a child, and how she had the opportunity to return the favor and help him later in life, a speech titled: “Unplug the controller“.
Impromptu Table Topics Master of the day Jinendra prepared questions that helped us deliver 1 – 2 minute impromptu speeches:
– Cris – when was the first time you realized you started to lose hair? or what was the worst haircut you ever had?
– Traci – if you won the lottery what would be your first expense?
– Katie – what kind of phone was your first cellphone and how would you use it in today’s world?
– Albert – which of the seven wonders would you want to visit first?
– Moises – what is your first memory as a kid that you recollect?
