“In the Year 2043”, Seattle Sunriser Toastmasters, August 18, 2018

The theme for today was “In the Year 2043”, by our Toastmaster Mike, who predicted that by 2042 the world of using cash would be diminished, if not eliminated and many new inventions would be had. Our grammarian was Aleli and the word of the day was probable and the probability that the word was used numerous times is 100%. Kathy stepped in as the timer.

Sande was our first speaker of the day and spoke of the isolated land known as Afghanistan, and the Anglo-Afghan wars: a land between empires.

Bill S spoke next, and shared his experience meeting people that were homeless when he was a teenager and how it shaped his view of humanity. He shared beautiful black and white photos of people whom had been homeless. Pictures are powerful and do not need words to tell a story. He encouraged us all to reach out and say  helllo,  in order to connect.

Jimmy demonstrated how synchronized the world is today by having everyone look the time on their cell phones. He explained how in ancient days that time was written in the sun, moon, and stars. In the future we may look towards coordinating universal time.

Landon was our last speaker and noted that we don’t necessarily like our own voice. It isn’t what we say that makes people take notice, it’s how we use our vocal variety and body language to say it. He gave us steps to infuse a wider variety of pitch into our vocals.
