With 18 members and one guest in attendance, Dave launched the morning with humorous remarks on the theme, “busted.”
Avilio started off the speeches with “Shall We Dance,” his second project from the competent communicator manual. He shared his thoughts on why we dance, what the challenges are for beginners, and why we keep dancing.
Portia presciently used the word of the day in the very title of “Travel Shenanigans,” also her second project. In it, she took us on a whirlwind tour of Oxford, Japan, and Israel, with anecdotes that all supported the clear message that when you travel, expect the unexpected!
Marti then invited us to a workshop filming in “Join Me,” her third project from the competent communicator manual. She shared with us the marvels she experienced firsthand of using energy psychology to overcome phobias and her own work to apply these techniques to conquering stage fright.
Then Junlei made an incursion into the advanced manual on special occasions with “Mastering the Toast.” We all imagined we were at the first annual Seattle Sunrise BBQ, bottles of beer (or other beverages) raised in a toast to precious time we spend together in our club.
For Table Topics, Mark wowed us with challenging, imaginative questions ranging from a plug to Steven Spielberg at a drive-in burger joint for a screenplay of a film called “Busted” to a Mandela-inspired topic of a cause for which we are willing to sacrifice everything. Scott, Bianca, Nicole, Janell, Seva, Michelle, and Brian all took a turn delivering an extemporaneous answer, with the prize for Best Table Topics going to Seva.
Marti, Adrian, Scott, and Mark each delivered words of encouragement and advice in their evaluations of the speeches, followed by a general evaluation by Janell. Scott was voted Best Evaluator.
